Using Tech to Keep in Touch

By | February 8, 2012

One of the great things about working in the online marketing space is that there are plenty of free tools that you can use to keep yourself informed and in touch with what’s going on. Furthermore, many of these tools can also be used to track parts of your campaigns such as brand mentions and other important metrics. If you’re technically savvy then you could also make use of these tools for personal use such as finding out about things such as event tickets going on sale. Ever thought about how you could use online tools to make sure you never miss out on event tickets?

We thought it could make a pretty cool post to look at the traditional use of popular tools and see if we could apply them to improving your social life!

Google Alerts

Google Alerts are a great way of tracking who’s talking about your brand on the web. By setting them up to alert you of certain phrases, words or URL’s being mentioned online you can start to get emails whenever this happens. This is really useful if you’re trying to get an idea of how your marketing campaign is going, and helps to keep you in touch with how your brand is growing online. But what if you wanted to utilise them for personal use?

One idea might be to set them up to alert you if your favourite band is announcing a tour. Nothing’s more frustrating than missing out on tickets to see your favourite band; so why not set up some alerts to find out before anyone else?! By setting up your Google Alerts to notify you of terms such as ‘Coldplay on Tour’ you’ll be emailed as soon as the news breaks.

Social Media Tracking

Tools such as Follwerwonk can help you keep track of your brand on social media sites such as Twitter and Facebook. If you’re executing a social media campaign, then this is all highly useful stuff for you to get involved in. Understanding what people are saying about you is also very useful for customer service and improving what you offer. After all, how can you improve if you don’t know what REAL people think?

Flipping these social tracking pages around slightly, you could also use them to find out some useful information for your personal life. Got a favourite TV show, celebrity or artist? Want to know what’s going on without spending hours digging around? Well, the answers pretty simple; start using some of the tools out there to keep up to date with what’s happening!

There are plenty more ideas that you could use, but hopefully these ideas will get you started! With so many amazing tools and tricks available, it seems crazy not to take full advantage of them and start to use them in the way you want.
